A REPORT of a person in the water at Belhaven Bay led to Dunbar’s RNLI crew being called out yesterday (Tuesday).

The volunteers received a call at about 3.50pm and launched the inshore lifeboat from the town’s harbour.

However, while the crew were on their way, Dunbar’s Coastguard team, who were already on scene, managed to establish that the person in the water was a surfer and in no need of assistance.

Gordon Kirkham, ILB helm, said: “This was a false alarm with good intent and the caller did the right thing by notifying the coastguard with their concerns.”

After Coastguard stood down the crew, they returned to the harbour where the lifeboat was refuelled, ready for its next service.
