GRAFFITI has been scrawled on signs calling for the rejection of a proposed family theme park at East Fortune.

Plans were revealed earlier this year for East Links Family Park to be “relocated” from its current home at Hedderwick Hill, on the outskirts of West Barns, to East Fortune Farm.

A website – Keep East Lothian Beautiful (KELB) – was set up in opposition to the plans by East Fortune Holdings Ltd.

Eight signs were put in place in nearby fields calling for people to object to the proposals, which are being weighed up by East Lothian Council.

However, six of the signs were targeted by vandals over the weekend.

David Johnston, spokesman for KELB, said: “It is hugely disappointing that anyone would think this is a sensible way to conduct a public debate.”

Tony Thomas, representing East Fortune Holdings Ltd, agreed the defacement of signs was not acceptable.

He stated that the applicants had “nothing to do with the illegal and unsightly signs that have appeared in the area or the subsequent defacing of them over the weekend and will continue to address any genuine questions about the application through the appropriate and proper channels”.
