GREGGS, Costa and Miss Millie’s hope to open their doors at a revamped roadside services on the outskirts of Musselburgh within a matter of weeks.

Plans to transform Old Craighall Services, between the A1 and the Edinburgh City Bypass, were given the go-ahead by East Lothian Council in the spring of last year.

The Motor Fuel Group (MFG) proposals included knocking down the existing petrol station and replacing it with “an enhanced roadside services offer”.

A drive-thru coffee shop, which has received the green light from the local authority, is also earmarked for the site as part of a separate plan.

Work is well under way to transform the site, which was once home to a Little Chef and a Burger King.

A spokesperson for Greggs confirmed it intended to be open before Christmas.

They said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop near Musselburgh in December, operated by our franchise partner MFG.

“We look forward to welcoming Greggs fans and new customers to come try our range of tasty bakes, hot drinks and sweet treats.”

Drawings included in a fresh application for advertising consent feature the names of Greggs and Costa, which already have branches in Musselburgh.

Alongside them are Miss Millie’s, which specialises in fried chicken, and Londis and BP.

Miss Millie’s East Lothian branch will be the first of its kind in Scotland.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We originated in the south-west of the UK, mainly with stores in Bristol.

“We have been expanding rapidly over the last year in partnership with MFG.

“This will be our fourth forecourt store. The others are at Wellington, Eastbourne and then we have one at Newquay opening in a couple of weeks.”

It is anticipated the Musselburgh restaurant will employ about 25 members of staff and open in early December.

Costa has also been approached for a comment.
