A MUSSELBURGH man has appeared in court to admit an assault in the town.

Daniel Knox, 22, lunged at Thomas McGeary and seized him by the body during an incident at Mall Avenue.

Knox then pushed the man to the ground to his severe injury on June 25 last year.

Knox, of Rothesay Place, was in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of assault.

The Crown agreed to delete the words “and smear blood on his clothing” from the complaint and agreed to the guilty plea.

The offender also had not guilty pleas accepted to assaulting a woman by spitting on her body and damaging a window and challenging others to fight during the same incident.

Sheriff Donald Corke deferred sentence to next month for social work reports to be written up.
