A MOTORIST has been fined after accelerating his vehicle towards a woman. Hafeez Ahmed drove his vehicle carelessly and without due care and attention by repeatedly accelerating towards the pedestrian.

Ahmed, of Rosehill Cusp, Wallyford, drove towards Ellie Gibson and caused her to take evasive action to avoid being struck by his vehicle on South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh.

The 40-year-old also failed to observe a red traffic signal during the incident in the Capital on December 14, 2021.

Ahmed pleaded guilty to the charge after the Crown agreed to downgrade the offence from dangerous driving to one of driving without due care and attention when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Tuesday.

Sheriff Kevin McCarron sentenced Ahmed to pay a fine of £500 and placed five penalty points on his driving licence.
