SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has stepped in to help a group of local authors.

A new anthology, featuring poetry and prose, has been written by members of Tyne and Esk Writers.

Titled With a Pinch of Salt: Food for Thought, the collection has been edited by Borders author Margaret Skea.

Dr Jock Stein, Tyne and Esk convenor, was delighted that the supermarket had decided ‘every little helps’.

He said: “Last year, Tesco wanted to celebrate giving away £100 million to good causes.

“They selected 100 of their biggest stores in the UK and gave each store a ‘golden token’.

“Whoever got that token would put it into one of their three local charity bins, and the lucky charity would receive £10,000 from Tesco.

“Musselburgh was one of those stores, and Tyne and Esk Writers the lucky charity!”

Tyne and Esk Writers is a community writing charity with groups running throughout East Lothian and Midlothian.

Dr Stein added: “This is a fantastic boost to our seven community writing groups.

“We have been able to work with a professional writer who has advised and inspired our members, and we have produced an anthology of our work – prose, short stories and poetry.

“Inspired by the Tesco grant, the theme was ‘food’ and we are delighted to launch With a Pinch of Salt: Food for Thought from Tyne and Esk Writers.

“Our project for 2024 Tyne and Esk is launching a workshop for members and local schools with the National Museum of Flight and we are grateful to Tesco and to all the shoppers who supported us to enable more local folk the opportunity to take part in creative writing.”
