MEMBERS of the public have been urged to stay clear of North Berwick Harbour as Storm Babet continues to affect the area.

The town's RNLI lifeboat crew put the message out on social media as "overtopping waves" battered the harbour overnight and this morning.

The team said that the waves were "easily moving beach huts, boats and planters" and advised people to steer clear of the area.

An RNLI spokesperson said: "Significant overtopping of sea defences in North Berwick Harbour area occurred overnight and continues even after high water has past.

"Stay well back; very powerful waves have been reaching into dune systems of local beaches, over sea defences and onto roads."
