FRINGE by the Sea has been nominated for the best small festival award in the UK.

The festival, which takes place every August in North Berwick, has been nominated alongside a number of events at the UK Festival Awards.

Organisers of the festival, which has been running since 2008, toasted the “most successful” ever event this year, boasting record ticket sales.

The total number of visitors to events surpassed 75,000, with numerous sold-out shows including by Sister Sledge, Travis, Elkie Brooks, Peat & Diesel, Hamza Yassin, Maggie O’Farrell, William Dalrymple, Patrick Grant, Side Hustle mass karaoke and Geno Washington, as well as the comedy nights with Dylan Moran, Dara Ó Briain and Viggo Venn.

Jackie Shuttleworth, general manager of Fringe by the Sea, said: “To be in the running for a national award for Fringe by the Sea is very exciting.

“It takes a massive team effort to make the festival happen so actually this nomination is testament to the effort and passion of many people, from our volunteers to artists to all those who support us, especially in North Berwick and East Lothian.

“We’d love to put the county on the map for events and bring this one home!”
