A LANE on the A1 will be closed for about a month due to “failing concrete”.

The westbound (northbound) stretch of the road, near Innerwick, has been temporarily closed after inspectors from Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland identified the issue.

Previously, the area was patched but it has now been confirmed it needs “more extensive repairs”.

The works are being scheduled “as soon as practical” but BEAR Scotland confirmed the closure is likely to be in place for a number of weeks.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “This area of concrete on the A1 has deteriorated to the point where it needs more extensive reconstruction than can be carried out at short notice.

“We don’t expect the lane closure to cause significant delays at this location, however we are mobilising resources to get these repairs completed as soon as possible.

“We’re grateful to road users for their patience and understanding.”
