PRAISE from his sea cadets has led to an adult volunteer picking up a top prize.

The Cadet Adult Recognition Awards (CARAs) were introduced so that young people could highlight the work of volunteers within the Cadet Forces.

Petty Officer Craig Stebbing, of Dunbar Sea Cadets, was among those recognised at a virtual awards ceremony hosted by the Lowland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association.

The volunteer was awarded the Sea Cadets East CARA and said: “It was really humbling to receive this CARA and it was such an honour to be nominated by the cadets.

“I know I’ve worked hard with them but it’s all down to them and it’s actually a wonderful thing to be recognised by them for my achievements.”

The CARAs acknowledge the dedication and selflessness of the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs).

Volunteers give up their time and knowledge to help young people aged 12-18 develop new skills and prepare for adult life.

All nominations are submitted by cadet members of the Army Cadet Force, Sea Cadet Corps and Air Training Corps.

Now in its fourth year, the CARAs received a record number of nominations, highlighting the admiration the cadets had for their adult instructors.

As well as receiving a CARA certificate, each winner was also presented with a gift voucher sponsored by a local business.

Mr Stebbing teaches maths at North Berwick High School.
