FUNDING to help a community group tackling food crisis throughout Haddington has been secured.

Heather Bowsher and Pat Lemmon are taking on roles at Lammermuir Larder thanks to a successful funding application to The National Lottery Community Fund.

Mrs Bowsher will fill the role of advocacy worker while Mrs Lemmon will take on the post of co-ordinator.

Neil Cockburn, chair of Lammermuir Larder, described the funding boost as “welcome news”.

He said: “The appointment of the advocacy worker will help to enable people to build more resilient lives by supporting and empowering our clients to find a pathway out of their current food poverty trap.

“In addition, the advocacy worker may act, where appropriate, as an advocate on their behalf.

“The co-ordinator will ensure the continued smooth running of the Lammermuir Larder.”

Lammermuir Larder, based on Haddington’s Mitchell’s Close, was founded in 2021.

The group offers support to those in the Haddington area who are struggling financially to feed themselves and, potentially, their families.

Kate Still, The National Lottery Community Fund, Scotland chair, said: “National Lottery funding can make amazing things happen in local communities across the country.

“This project delivered by the Lammermuir Larder Group, is a great example of community activity in action, showing just what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause or to help others.”
