A YOUTH was captured on camera urinating on the roof of an East Lothian church in broad daylight after a group of youngsters climbed on top of the building.

The incident on top of Haddington West Parish Church, in the town centre, happened shortly before 7pm last Monday.

Residents spoke of their disgust after they spotted the youths on the roof of the building before one pulled down his trousers and relieved himself in full view.

One said: “I was taking a picture of the group on the roof to show the police when I realised one was urinating.

"It was absolutely shocking behaviour and could be seen by anyone looking on to the building.

“He didn’t seem remotely worried about being seen.”

A spokesperson for the Church of Scotland said that they were aware of the incident on the roof.

"Whilst this is highly unusual, we will be reviewing how this occurred and take appropriate steps to prevent it from happening again.”

A council spokesperson said: “East Lothian Council is aware of the unacceptable behaviour of a small minority of young people in Haddington.

“Officers from our safer communities team, in partnership with Police Scotland and other agencies, are engaging with young people through local schools and in the community whilst taking the appropriate action against those found to be responsible.

“Anyone affected by anti-social behaviour is advised to report it to the council on 01875 824307.”

Police were unable to confirm a report of the incident last week.
