A LIFELONG fascination with portraiture has prompted a Gullane gallery owner to invite eight artists to create new work focusing on the human head.

The idea for the exhibition came to Alan Rae, who runs Fidra Fine Art, while watching the Portrait Artist of the Year series on TV.

The programme, now in its 10th year, brings a range of celebrities to sit for competing artists each week.

The new exhibition, called Portrait, opens at the village gallery on Saturday.

Artists taking part include Henry H Fraser, Komachi Goto, Simon Laurie, Stephanie Mills and East Lothian’s Angela Repping.

Alan said: “Figurative art is one of the oldest art forms.

“It recorded the appearance of individuals and was used to portray social standing, integrity, wealth and religious or political convictions.”

The exhibition runs until November 5.
