A DAY centre in Cockenzie and Port Seton has welcomed the addition of a new bus to help with its day-to-day activities.

The John Bellany Day Centre, on The Promenade, is an elderly-focused day centre that provides daytime support for older people in the community.

The bus has been leased thanks to funding from the Tyne and Esk Rural Communities Development Fund.

It provided a grant of approximately £10,000 to cover part of the lease costs of the new bus.

The bus will play an important role for the day centre’s clients, taking them to and from the centre as well as on day trips and excursions.

Keith McCombs, manager at the day centre, was delighted by the funding and thanked all those who worked hard to make it happen.

He said: “Charles [Simpson, trustee] did lots of hard work to get this bus.

“The grant goes a long way to paying the lease.

“Having this bus is great – the old bus used to let us down and break down. This is a better quality of bus – it does the job!

“It’s a positive step – thank you to all the hard work of our trustees and support from the local community.”
