Eager walkers braved the heat on Saturday as they took part in a much-loved walk in memory of a East Lothian stalwart.

About 65 participants lined up for the annual Walk With Scott jaunt, established by Tranent after-dinner speaker and community fundraiser Scott Glynn in 2013 to mark his 50th birthday.

Scott passed away on New Year’s Day 2020 after being diagnosed with cancer but his memory - and legacy - lives on.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of the Walk with Scott Foundation, set up to help communities in East Lothian.

Saturday's Walk With Scott followed a 10-mile route through part of the west of the county, starting at Cockenzie and Port Seton Royal British Legion, heading to Levenhall, back towards Longniddry then returning to Cockenzie and Port Seton.

Karen Kidd, trustee for the charity, said: "It went really well. It was very hot: a full sun from the start of the walk!

"It was a great atmosphere with lots of people cheering us on and everyone giving their full effort.

"The shorter than usual distance really helped, especially in the heat, and we had lots of young people getting involved, the youngest being six weeks, going along in their buggy."

The walk has raised more than £2,000 so far with the fundraising page still open for donations.

Karen said that while the money raised was great, the group was glad to be doing more for the community's wellbeing.

She said: "I think for us the walk is also about doing something for people's mental and physical health. It is a fun activity and a great community event.

"We are always looking to expand our 'Scotter' family, and we had probably about a third of participants being new people this year.

"It was just a fantastic day."

Councillor Colin McGinn, also a Walk with Scott Foundation trustee, took the time to remember the group's founder.

He said: "To be afforded the opportunity to support others in your community is a privilege and cannot be taken for granted.

"This is one of the reasons I will be eternally grateful to my big mate Scott Glynn and our family of Scotters.

"The Walk with Scott Foundation will continue his work and ensure his legacy continues."

Fellow Tranent, Wallyford and Macmerry ward councillor Lee-Anne Menzies also took part in the walk.

She said on Facebook afterwards: "The walk was knackering, uplifting, emotional and very worthwhile. I’ve a feeling I’ll be back for the next one.

"Thanks to everyone who has liked, shared and donated. It’s a fantastic cause and the money will be well spent on our communities."
