Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band are toasting success after being named the fifth best school pipe band in the world.

The band took part in the World Pipe Band Championships on Saturday as 190 bands from across the globe came together in celebration of Highland culture.

The event took place at a wet and windy Glasgow Green, but the conditions did not dampen the spirits of PL who starred in the Juvenile section.

Their performance was only bettered by eventual winners Dollar Academy, George Watson’s College, St Andrew’s College from New Zealand and George Heriot’s School.

The result also officially makes PL the best state school pipe band in the world.

Gavin Clark, Preston Lodge High School headteacher, said: “Our pipe bands have had a really strong competition season, and we are delighted with the progress both have made.

“Really strong results have been achieved in all competitions, and for our Juvenile Pipe Band to be the fifth best school pipe band in the world is a tremendous achievement.

“Well done, and thank you, to all our pipers and drummers who do so much to make us so proud to be PL.

“You have lifted our whole community, and we cannot wait to see you back in action next season.”
