A RECORD-BREAKING number of entries have helped a charity’s summer show raise thousands of pounds.
Muirfield Riding Therapy’s 15th annual Summer Show for Horses and Ponies on July 30 saw 145 riders compete across 49 classes, with 440 class entries and an age range from four to 75.
Jo Patrick, show secretary, was delighted with its success.
She said: “The rain and thunderstorms stayed away from the show’s site at West Fenton and all classes were able to run. The fancy dress was a particular highlight with Walt Disney’s 101 Dalmatians and the Scarecrow, Lion, the Tin Man and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz turning up. There were even competitors all the way from Australia!”
The winners of each of the classes in the four championship rings went through to their ring’s championship class.
First and second from each championship class were invited to compete in the event’s supreme-in-show class.
Ring B – Ridden Championship, sponsored by Garden Solutions: 1 Krista Ainslie – Just Reiver; 2 Harriet Morrison – Municeach Lady.
Ring C – Veterans and Coloureds Championship, sponsored by Drem Timber & Fencing Ltd: 1 Joan Leslie – Craigyderyn Warrior; 2 Gill Tait – Bailey.
Ring A – Working Hunter Championship, sponsored by Garden Stirling Burnet: 1 Jade Patterson – Highland Cruise; 2 Georgina Patterson – Leo.
Ring F – Mountain and Moorland Championship, sponsored by Q Electrical Industrial Services: 1 Abbey Johnston – Glentress Talisker; 2 Skye Ramsay – Robin.
Supreme-in-Show: Krista Ainslie – Just Reiver; Reserve: Joan Leslie – Craigyderyn Warrior.
The supreme-in-show and reserve were presented with their trophies by Andrew Black, of Andrew Black Haulage and Storage Ltd, Drem, the show’s main sponsor.
Jo added: “It would be impossible to run such an event without our team who all give their time free of charge: our judges, volunteer stewards and gatekeepers, our Rotary Club of North Berwick car parking marshals on the day, plus an army of people needed to put on an event like this, and the many generous sponsors who help us fund the event.
“We’d like to say a special thank you to the Morrison family for allowing us to run the show at West Fenton Farm and Livery, and to farm managers John and Kerry for their help preparing fields for the event.
“It raised just over £9,000, which will help ensure MRT is able to provide its pioneering, equine-facilitated therapy free of charge to ensure it is accessible to all who need it.”
The next event in the charity’s fundraising calendar is the Winter Series Show Jumping Championship, starting on September 24.
