A FIRE which caused thousands of pounds worth of damage in a field on the outskirts of Dunbar is being treated as deliberate.

Firefighters spent more than 24 hours battling the blaze south of the A1, near Spott Roundabout, on May 8 and into the following day.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that 1,000 bales were destroyed or damaged in the fire.

Councillor Donna Collins, who represents the Dunbar and East Linton ward, estimated that the cost of the damage was more than £10,000.

Now, a spokesperson for Police Scotland has confirmed that enquiries into the blaze, which was seen throughout much of Dunbar, are ongoing.

They said: “We were made aware of a number of hay bales on fire on land near to Spott Roundabout close to the A1 at Dunbar shortly before 9pm on May 8.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended to extinguish the fire.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
