MORE than a dozen people have pulled on their walking boots in memory of a popular grandmother and those impacted by cancer.

Sixteen people set off from Cockenzie and made their way along the coast before heading to Haddington.

The 11-mile sponsored walk was in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Among those taking part was Pat Lemmon, who organised a similar walk from Cockenzie to Dirleton last year.

She organised the fundraiser in aid of Elaine ‘Lal’ Muir, who lost her battle with melanoma and secondary breast cancer in March last year, as well as for the friends and family of the people who took part who are currently fighting the disease or lost someone to cancer.

Pat, who co-founded the Lammermuir Larder in Haddington, said: “Sixteen of us started the walk and, with some friends joining us, 18 finished – and even my dog Gracie did part of the walk.

“It was a warm day and we were glad when we got back to the Tyneside Tavern, where Paul Kinnoch had organised some sandwiches and drinks.

“We had a great day and I’m very grateful to everyone who took part and to everyone who sponsored us.

“We hope when all the money has been collected in to have raised more than £3,000 for Cancer Research UK.

“We have to say thank you to Shiva and Shanthi Kumar for donating bottles of water to us.”

Elaine, 74, from Longniddry, was director of Scot of Haddington, on the town’s Hospital Road, alongside her husband Alan.

The fundraiser was also highlighted at Haddington and District Community Council’s meeting this month.

Rab Moran, who was among those taking part, thanked those involved, and Mike Lemmon and two nurses for helping when he fell during the walk.
