A Gullane Primary School pupil will have her artwork shared with tens of thousands of people after her drawing was chosen to adorn the front cover of the Fringe by the Sea festival programme.

Eva Rose Hartt, a P6 pupil, had her striking design selected, despite stiff competition from more than 400 entrants in the design-the-front-cover competition.

Eva’s drawing depicts a young woman basking in sunshine in North Berwick while her sunglasses contain reflections of the Bass Rock and a puffin.

Eva said: “I was inspired by all the beautiful landmarks in North Berwick. I love to draw and paint, and wanted to create something that represented the style I like!”

Eva will also take home £100 worth of Fringe by the Sea vouchers.

The festival kicks off on August 4 at North Berwick’s Lodge Grounds, bringing together a variety of acts including Dylan Moran, Travis and Britain’s Got Talent winner Viggo Venn.

About 20 other shortlisted entries in the design competition will be displayed in an exhibition at the Fringe by the Sea festival hub in the Lodge Grounds until August 13.

Jackie Shuttleworth, general manager of Fringe by the Sea, said: “We loved looking through the hundreds of creative entries sent in by East Lothian primary school pupils – a big thanks to everyone who got involved.

“Eva’s colourful and bold design really stood out for the judges and we loved that her picture celebrates North Berwick and has a real fun, festival feel.”
