A member of the National Trust for Scotland team at historic Newhailes House and Gardens in Musselburgh has been bitten by a dog.

An appeal to dog owners to ensure their canine companions are under proper control while visiting the attraction has been issued following the recent incident.

A spokesperson for the National Trust for Scotland said: "This week, a dog bit a member of the National Trust for Scotland team as they were walking through the courtyard at Newhailes. Fortunately, there was no serious harm done but it does reinforce the need for anyone bringing their dogs to the stables courtyard, café and shop at Newhailes to keep them under proper control.

"Newhailes is a dog-friendly site and we welcome well behaved dogs on short leads. But we do ask people to keep a close eye on their dog, pick up after them, and be considerate to other visitors as well as to our employees and volunteers."
