VACCINATIONS against a range of conditions will soon be on offer from the East Lothian Community Hospital.

East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership’s primary vaccination team has been based at Haddington’s Corn Exchange.

The town centre venue has “played a crucial role” in the delivery of Covid-19 vaccinations, as well as subsequent boosters, flu, shingles and pneumococcal vaccination programmes.

Now, vaccinations will move to the multi-million-pound hospital, with the clinic opening its doors on June 19.

Fiona Wilson, chief officer of East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “Since the launch of the country wide Covid-19 vaccination programme, the Primary Care teams have gone above and beyond, to reach as many people as possible and provide the protection against the virus.

“Like other vaccines, levels of protection may reduce over time, so it important that eligible individuals continue to receive the booster doses when offered.

“We are incredibly grateful to East Lothian Council, and the communities and estates service in particular, for granting us a special lease to occupy the Haddington Corn Exchange.

“Likewise we offer our sincere thanks to Haddington High Street business for their kindness, generosity and support.

“The Corn Exchange has proven to be an invaluable location to host our vaccination programme to date, and for this I offer my sincere thanks to both the council and the community.”

The new vaccination clinic at East Lothian Community Hospital will be open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

In response to public feedback, the Primary Care Vaccination Team are also making preparations to provide an additional vaccination clinic at Belhaven Hospital, in Dunbar.

It is hoped it will open in time for the autumn/winter vaccination programme.

In addition, the vaccination teams will continue to operate their dedicated clinics at both Musselburgh Primary Care Centre and North Berwick’s Edington Hospital.

Currently, the vaccination team are focussing their efforts on providing the Spring Covid-19 booster to all eligible people.

All eligible individuals will be contacted directly and offered appointments to attend one of the designated vaccination clinics.

Should the allocated appointment be unsuitable, there is the opportunity to reschedule appointments using the contact details provided in the invite.

A spokesperson for East Lothian Council confirmed discussions would now take place about the future use of the Corn Exchange.

He said: “The Health and Social Care Partnership’s use of Haddington Corn Exchange will come to an end later this month.

"The council hopes to provide an update to the community regarding use of the building as soon as possible.”
