ABERLADY Gala’s queen and consort are preparing for the event’s crowning ceremony on Saturday.

Lucy Ratcliffe has been selected as gala queen, while Kalan McIntosh will be consort.

Gala day takes place at Aberlady playing fields on School Road.

The crowning ceremony begins at 12.30pm and will be followed by a parade around the village at 1pm, led by North Berwick Pipe Band.

From 1pm, there will be inflatables, face painting and games at the playing fields.

Live music from Aberlady Moonshine Orchestra, Folk Session and more will be played, while children can enjoy some balloon creations from The Balloon Man.

A gala barbecue, tea tent, pizza van, bar, tuck shop and ice cream van will also be present at the event, which finishes at 7pm following a raffle draw at 4.30pm.

A spokesperson for the gala said: “Planning has been going really well.

“We’re all set for the day, and for a week of activities the week following the gala.

“The fundraising has been really successful.

“We’ve had lots of parents and members of the community involved in running events throughout the year in the lead-up to the gala, it’s been a real team effort.

“We’ve very much prepared for it. We’ve all just got our fingers crossed for sunshine now!”

The gala marks the start of the village’s gala week, which will see a family quiz take place at Aberlady Community Hall on Monday (6.30-8pm).

A children’s disco takes place at the village hall on Tuesday, for nursery pupils to P3 (6-7pm) and P4-P7 (7.15-8.15pm).

Football will be enjoyed at the playing fields on Tuesday, with a P5-P7 vs parents match (6-7pm), S1-S4 vs parents (7-8pm), and S5-S6 vs over-18s playing from 8pm.

A children’s fun run takes place next Thursday (June 8), starting at Aberlady Bay Local Nature Reserve (6-8pm). Children must be pre-registered to take part.

A Sunday procession service takes place next Sunday (June 11), when the gala court will process from Aberlady Village Hall to Aberlady Kirk at 10.45am, led by the village pipers.

A church service at 11.15am will close out the week.
