A North Berwick butcher’s has struck gold after being honoured at a national awards ceremony.

Anderson’s Quality Butcher, on the town’s High Street, won big at the Scottish Craft Butchers awards at Forth Valley College in Stirling last week.

Proprietor Ryan Anderson took home three gold awards for their speciality burgers and haggis, claiming the top awards for their spicy lamb burger, luxury burger bomb, and also pork and haggis roll.

Judges highlighted the products’ quality for use in the home and outdoors as the ideal summer treat.

The team also collected silver awards for their nacho cheese burger and haggis-in-a-hole.

Mr Anderson was delighted at the recognition they received.

He said: “It is important, to help keep our standards up [that we are judged by the industry].

“In terms of our new products, it’s about moving with the times and keeping ourselves fresh and new – whilst also keeping the traditions.”

The haggis-in-a-hole product was something a bit more experimental for the team and Mr Anderson stressed it’s always important to keep innovating.

“It’s great to just do something a little bit different, thinking outside the box a little bit – having something you invent yourself.”

George Jarron, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, added: “We run these evaluations not just to award excellence but to underline the diverse product range that craft butchers offer.

“It is good time to be a butcher because customers are becoming more adventurous with their tastes and they are always seeking out the assurance of provenance that shopping at a specialist provides.”
