A Tranent pub has helped raise £800 for East Lothian Foodbank after an all-day fundraising party.

Whispers Lounge Bar, on Tranent High Street, saw more than 150 guests attend The Sunday Club, which featured live music inside the pub and in its beer garden.

The event, held earlier this month, was organised by Dan Morgan, whose parents, Elliot and Simmie, own the popular pub.

Dan said: “It was a fantastic day. We had expected some bad weather so we had people out in the beer garden before going inside.

“We ran from about 1.30pm until closing time so it was a great all-day thing.

“We ran it last year and it was really successful. We raised £500 last year and, with selling a few more tickets this year, we have managed to beat it.

“There is a bank holiday coming up in August so we are thinking of doing another one then and raising some more money.”

Dan said choosing East Lothian Foodbank as the charity receiving the money was an easy decision.

He said: “There are a lot of great charities we could have raised money for but the foodbank is right on our doorstep and we know what great work they do.

“I dropped the donation off and they were so grateful. They said they can spend about £1,000 a week on food for those who need it so this should cover them for about a week.

“I was delighted with the support and I thank everyone for coming along.”

A spokesperson for East Lothian Foodbank said: “Big thank you to Dan, who came along with a wonderful donation of £800 from Whispers after running a fundraiser for us.

“It really is so appreciated.”
