FAMILIES are being offered the chance to take part in an event to tackle clothing poverty.
Berwickshire Swap is spreading into East Lothian, with an event in Ormiston Community Centre tomorrow (Saturday).
Further events are planned for Dunbar’s Bleachingfield Centre in October, with hopes of organising similar clothing swaps in Haddington and North Berwick.
The organisers conducted a survey last year about clothing poverty and found that 50 per cent of people had under £25 a month to spend on clothes for children. Fifty per cent said they were not in clothing poverty yet but were worried that the cost of living crisis would lead them there within a year.
People are invited on Saturday (11am-2pm) to swap unwanted clothes and save good-quality items from going to landfill.
