A CALL to end the fossil fuel era has been supported by representatives from a variety of East Lothian groups.

Four days of marches took place in London last month, with members of Climate Action East Linton, Sustaining Dunbar, Christian Climate Action Scotland and other county groups among those in attendance.

The Big One saw pickets at Government departments, speeches, samba bands and a number of activities, including citizens’ assemblies.

A spokesperson for Climate Action East Linton said: “With 200 organisations working together, it drew a diverse crowd of over 60,000 people from all walks of life, from bishops and priests to doctors, scientists, teachers, gardeners, IT workers, nurses, parents, grandparents, elders, children and many more.

“Over the four days, there wasn’t a single arrest; instead, there were many positive interactions with the police and others.”

The group has vowed to continue to build on the day as “people unite in their deep concerns for the climate and biodiversity crises”.
