A GRANDMOTHER was left horrified after finding dog poo on a swing while taking her granddaughter to Mayfield Park, also known as Muckletts Park, behind Mayfield Crescent in Musselburgh.

Karen Mackay explained how she had taken the infant to the park, by Monktonhall, and saw her “wiping down” the swing.

When she went over to investigate, she found it had been covered with faeces which had then covered her granddaughter’s jacket.

Karen said on Facebook: “Took my three-year-old granddaughter to Mayfield Park this afternoon; she ran ahead to the baby swings and I saw her wiping the seat down.

“How absolutely disgusting to find both baby swings with dog poo – one all smeared the across seat – and her jacket covered.”

Karen said she had not previously seen anyone acting irresponsibly at the park, but

She told the Courier: "I can't understand why any person child, teenager or adult would get a kick out of targeting a baby swing or indeed wanting to handle dog dirt.

"I personally have never saw any anti social behaviour at this little park but a few people said they have saw teenagers hanging about there

"I visit regularly with my granddaughter and my almost two-year-old grandson too. We will no doubt will be back but this has really sickened me. It was totally disgusting."

Many people commented on the Karen's post, sharing their disgust at the situation.

One person wrote: “Disgusting. Who would even do that knowing small children would use the equipment?”

While another added: “My teenage boys and their friends would never dream of doing that. Unfortunately, the acts of a few ruin it for everyone else.”

While a third said: “Had to take my daughter to a different park because of this last night, disgusting!”

Karen contacted East Lothian Council to report the issue.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “The council were notified of this incident and cleaned the play equipment.

“Fortunately, this was a rare event and our play parks are regularly inspected by local amenity staff, but we would ask anyone aware of similar concerns and other problems such as broken glass to call the council immediately.”
