A PRESTONPANS man who caused a disturbance at his former partner’s home has been banned from having any contact with the woman.

John Saunders turned up at the house in Port Seton and acted in an aggressive manner.

Saunders, of Robertson Avenue, shouted and swore and also uttered threats of violence towards the woman and her family members during the incident.

The 48-year-old father-of-one also made threats to damage property during his unruly outburst in February this year.

Police were alerted to the situation and Saunders was subsequently arrested and charged.

He previously pleaded guilty to the offence during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and was back in the court dock for sentencing on Monday.

Solicitor John Goode said his client had been involved in an “unfortunate confrontation” with the woman and the couple’s relationship had “irretrievably” broken down.

Mr Goode added his client was “very sorry for his behaviour and feels remorse” and that he had no previous offending for abusive or violent behaviour.

Sheriff Christopher Dickson said: “I accept what has been said on your behalf by Mr Goode and that you have a limited record.

“But this was unpleasant incident and threats were made to your partner’s family.

“In all the circumstances, I will make a compensation order and a non-harassment order for two years.”

Saunders was ordered to pay the woman £400 and told he cannot approach or contact the woman or enter her home for the next two years.

Saunders admitted to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at an address on South Seton Park, Port Seton, on February 9 and 10 this year.
