SCOTLAND’S oldest working brewery has been enjoying the sweet taste of success after scooping three medals.

Staff at Belhaven were celebrating after clinching a trio of prizes at the prestigious Monde Selection 2023.

The brewery received gold for Belhaven Scottish Oat Stout and Belhaven Wee Heavy, plus a silver for Belhaven Scottish Ale.

Fiona Matheson, Belhaven brand manager, said: “We are bursting with pride to have received such good news about our beers and our brewery visitor experience.

“So much hard work goes on behind the scenes and both accolades are a tribute to our teams and the dedication and passion they bring to everything that we do here in our Dunbar home.

“As the summer months approach, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to the brewery to enjoy the experience we have on offer, along with a taste of some of our internationally winning beers.”

The Belhaven team has further cause to celebrate this week with news that the brewery’s visitor experience has been given four-star quality assurance status by VisitScotland – reflecting an excellent customer experience in the eyes of its expert tourism assessors.

The attraction opened in 2021 and offers people the chance to find out about the ‘home of Scottish brewing’.

VisitScotland’s Quality Assurance scheme represents world-class excellence, helping businesses shine, enabling visitors to make informed choices and driving up investment in quality.

Neil Christison, VisitScotland regional director, offered his congratulations to the brewery, which dates back to 1719.

He added: “Belhaven Brewery has been a fantastic addition to the tourism offering in Dunbar and East Lothian since they first started welcoming visitors for tours.

“This is a fantastic achievement for this business which reflects their commitment to providing an excellent customer experience and insight into the workings of Scotland’s oldest working brewery.”
