THE venue for consultation meetings about the Musselburgh Flood Protection Scheme has been switched.

They were due to take place at the Brunton Hall but will now be held at the Fisherrow Centre on South Street.

Parts of The Brunton are closed following a roof survey which detected "structural issues" on the theatre's roof.

Residents of the Esksides area will meet this evening, those in Fisherrow and Mountjoy tomorrow (Wednesday) and householders in the Edinburgh Road area on Thursday.

The drop-in sessions, from 6pm to 8pm, offer opportunities to provide feedback on the design of the scheme before the outline design is presented in June.

Project bosses are now moving towards the design of: placemaking and the needs of public spaces adjacent to the scheme; landscape design including trees, habitat, biodiversity and sand dunes; and nature-based solutions and natural flood management (NFM) within the scheme and the emerging ‘River Restoration’ concept being advanced between the A1 road bridge and mouth of the River Esk; access/connectivity requirements between the town’s urban/road landscape and the river corridor/coastal foreshore; amenity and playpark requirements in these locations; and Musselburgh Active Toun project and the incorporation of the active travel pathways into the town alongside the Scheme and/or on the replaced footbridges.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: "The consultations are aimed to focus exclusively on the design development in the areas of interest of each group.

"Whilst it’s intended these public meetings are for those living in proximity to the area, attendance is open to anyone who wishes to come along and contribute to the development of the design in these locations."
