A MUSSELBURGH man who sexually assaulted a teenage schoolgirl as they sat and watched movies together is facing a jail sentence.

Andrew Blaikie, 44, placed his hands under the teen’s clothing and fondled her breasts while he looked after her on numerous occasions at a property in East Lothian.

Blaikie also slipped his hand inside her underwear and placed his hand on the girl’s groin during shocking sex attacks carried out over a 12-month period.

The attacker later told the girl he had “a ****ing broken brain that makes me do things that are wrong but want to do them anyway as they feel so nice”.

The brave victim eventually managed to tell her mother what had been happening to her while Blaikie was looking after her and the police were alerted.

Blaikie (pictured below) pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the child on occasions between September 1, 2021, and October 2 last year when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Alan Wickham told the court that Blaikie targeted the schoolgirl while they watched films together and after her mother had asked him to look after the child.

Mr Wickham said that Blaikie “took the opportunity to move his hands under her clothing” and would regularly “touch her breasts” and on several occasions he “touched her on the vagina”.

The court heard that the terrified girl “did not know how to tell her mother” about the abuse but eventually revealed all after she broke down in tears during a phone call.

Blaikie, of North High Street, Musselburgh, apologised and told the girl he was “****ed up in the head” and said he would buy her books as an apology.

He denied the assaults when confronted by the girl’s mother but later sent texts to both claiming he “never meant to hurt anyone”.

He told the mother that the girl had asked him to “rub her boobs as they were sore” and that he “never forced myself on her and I never touched her with sexual intent”.

The text to the child stated: “I’m sorry for all the pain I’ve caused. Goodbye.”

A further message from Blaikie read: “I love you very dearly and I do have a ****ing broken brain that makes me do things I know are wrong but want to do them anyway as they feel so nice.”

The court was told that Blaikie was arrested and interviewed by police, where he admitted to officers he had touched the girl’s breasts but “only to rub cream on her sensitive nipples”.

Lawyer Julie Torley said that she would reserve all her mitigation to the sentencing hearing.

Sheriff Christopher Dickson told Blaikie that he had committed “a very serious offence” and placed him on the sex offenders' register for a term still to be decided.

Blaikie was released on bail and sentence was deferred to next month.
