A MUSSELBURGH mum says she will “do anything” to help raise funds to get her eight-month-old family dog a lifesaving operation.

Adele Brown is facing a £3,000 vet bill after her eight-month-old Dogue De Bordeaux, Rocky, fell ill and is in need of a hip replacement.

Adele lives in Musselburgh with her three daughters aged six, eight and 10. After a visit to the vet last month it was discovered that Rocky had severe hip dysplasia and was in need of a hip replacement.

Rocky is uninsured and Adele said was facing a minimum of a £3,000 bill to get the operation done.

Adele said he had previously been insured but his insurance expired in January, and she had forgotten to renew it.

The mum has now set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the operation.

She said that vets need a decision on whether to do the operation by next week, or Rocky will be put to sleep.

She said: “Because it’s a pre-existing condition they won’t insure him now. I have had the option to give him the operation and give him the best start in life or to have him put to sleep.

“My three girls are heartbroken as we just lost our beloved dog of 10 years in august last year. We’re distraught, I suffer bad mental health issues and he’s my best friend.

“I want to do anything to be able to give him the best start to life.”

Adele said she was considering running a number of events including shaving her head to raise funds.

She said: “If I can’t raise the funds, my poor baby is going to have to be put to sleep and I can’t face that.

“I’m also going to start a raffle and also possibly shave my hair off for money for the operation too. I’ll do anything to try give my boy the life he deserves.”
