A Pencaitland author has returned with a follow-up to his debut crime novel Bobbing Heads, continuing the story of the unfortunate and unlikely hero Greg Stewart.

Consider It Done by Gavin De Bier is a direct sequel to his 2019 offering, in which protagonist Greg is catapulted “from his low-key existence into a terrifying cycle of kidnap, murder, theft and murky secrets”.

In the novel, which is set across London, Tenerife and Scotland, Greg once again becomes entwined in the criminal underworld, stuck between two competing criminal gangs.

Mr De Bier is based in Pencaitland, spending much of his time working at North Berwick Golf Club.

He spoke to the Courier about Consider It Done, talking about his inspiration behind the idea and whether East Lothian would make an appearance.

Mr De Bier said: “It doesn’t, although many of my ideas for Consider It Done were first thought up while I was driving the buggy picking up golf balls on the West Course driving range!”

He stressed that the support he had received from the local community had been great since his debut novel, with people always asking about his progress on the sequel.

He said: “The support I have had from the local community has been fantastic and I often am asked for updates on my progress from my colleagues and when I am out walking my dog on the Pencaitland railway path.”

While many authors might struggle to follow up a successful novel, Mr De Bier never had this issue.

He stressed that the ideas for the sequel were already flowing before his debut effort was even published.

He added: “As soon as I had finished Bobbing Heads and even before it was published, I had ideas for the next one as the characters give me energy and I didn’t want to lose any momentum.”

In fact, Mr De Bier confirmed that he was already thinking about the next part of the story, confirming that East Lothian would make its long-awaited appearance.

He said: “In similar fashion, I am now starting the follow-up to Consider It Done and I will definitely feature East Lothian in the third book!”

The novel is available to buy on Amazon.
