PUPILS from Preston Lodge High School who were learning about climate change and the environment have received a reply from Sir David Attenborough.

S1 pupils undertook an ecology task to learn about how each individual can help to protect the planet for future generations.

The pupils then sent individual letters to the famed broadcaster and biologist about the things they were doing to reduce pollution in and around the school.

Attenborough sent back a letter to the headteacher, Gavin Clark, thanking the pupils for their enquiries and apologised for not replying to every single one.

He thanked the pupils for their letters, added that he was "delighted to know that the writers have found my shows interesting"

Susan Malamos, science teacher at the school, said: "They each wrote a letter to Sir David Attenborough including information about what they had been learning and the things they were doing at home and school to lessen pollution and be kinder to the planet.

"We all signed a Christmas card, in the hope that it would reach him by Christmas.

"We were delighted to receive a reply from David Attenborough this week and he had even gone to the trouble of signing off a letter and made sure that all the pupil letters were returned!

"As huge fans of all his documentaries you can imagine what a lovely surprise it was.

"As well as this, it gave the pupils a superb opportunity to use their letter writing skills and reflect on the importance of protecting our beautiful planet Earth."
