A spokesperson for the club said: "It has always been an honour to serve our community."

Brooke Ritchie, ward councillor for Preston Seton Gosford, collected the award on behalf of the club and stressed how important it was to see the club's hard work recognised.

She said: “It was a real honour to be able to accept the award for community engagement at this weekend’s Scottish Labour Conference on behalf of the Prestonpans Labour Club.

"The club sits right at the heart of the community in Prestonpans and is a huge credit to the team and committee there, so it’s excellent to see them their hard work recognised in this way.

"Congratulations to all the staff and committee and all those involved in the running of the club and in making it such an important and invaluable part of our community.”

Martin Whitfield, MSP for South Scotland, originally nominated the club for the award and was glad to see their community work acknowledged.

He said: “Prestonpans Labour Club has a long and proud track record of being at the heart of the local community and doing all it can to assist and support local people. Its committee and staff played their part in supporting vulnerable people during the pandemic and have been offering further help through the cost-of-living crisis.
