A MOTION has been submitted by East Lothian MSP Paul McLennan to congratulate county artist Andrew Crummy for his inclusion in the New Year Honours list.

Mr Crummy, from Cockenzie and Port Seton, was awarded an MBE for his services to art and cultural heritage, and is well known for his work on the Great Tapestry of Scotland and the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry.

The 63-year-old said that it was an “honour” to be given the rank, and to have worked with people on the various projects with which he has been involved.

Mr McLennan’s motion was supported by many MSPs, including South Scotland MSPs Craig Hoy and Martin Whitfield.

In the motion, he asked: “That the Parliament congratulates Andrew Crummy MBE, of East Lothian, on his inclusion in the New Year Honours List 2023 for services to art and cultural heritage; considers that the artist has worked on a number of large-scale public projects, including the Great Tapestry of Scotland, the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry, the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry and the Scottish Parliament’s People’s Panel, and expresses its gratitude to Mr Crummy for his art, which it considers resonates with the people of East Lothian, Scotland and beyond.”
