A PEDESTRIAN crossing could be put in place outside a village primary school.

Discussions between staff at Athelstaneford Primary School, parents and East Lothian Council are expected to take place.

Community councillor Malcolm Vickers highlighted the issue during a meeting of Haddington and District Community Council.

Mr Vickers, who represents the village on the group, said: “Our headteacher and one or two parents have approached me about crossing the road at the school and the safety of it.

“Could we get some sort of crossing in there?”

Councillor Shamin Akhtar, who attended the meeting, said that the issue would need to be passed on to East Lothian Council’s transportation department.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “No formal approach has been made to the roads team regarding this but the council is happy to consider traffic calming suggestions and will assess accordingly.”
