PLANS to improve access to the home of Scotland’s flag have been given the green light.
Two natural stone and timber benches are among the additions and alterations being carried out outside Athelstaneford Parish Church.
The Scottish Flag Trust is looking to make the visitor attraction accessible to all.
A number of existing paths will be resurfaced while a circular natural stone display will also be created.
A new information board telling the story of the adoption of the Saltire as Scotland’s national symbol from 832AD and the Battle of Athelstaneford has also been given the go-ahead.
The interpretative timeline goes right up until the re-opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999.
East Lothian Council’s planning department approved the proposals after there were no objections from the public.
