POLICE joined forces with Countryside Rangers and other organisations to stamp out rural crime.

A Rural Crime Day of Action took place on December 29 and saw police work with East Lothian Council, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, National Wildlife Crime, National Rural and Acquisitive Crime Unit and numerous wildlife crime-trained officers.

During the initiative, they carried out extensive patrols of rural areas using quad bikes and marked and unmarked police vehicles, providing an increased presence in rural areas.

Officers were also on hand to offer information and advice on various topics, including poaching, livestock worrying and attacks, and acquisitive crime.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Thanks to the partners who assisted on the day and to everyone who stopped and spoke with us.

“The day of action was carried out simultaneously in Midlothian and the Scottish Borders.”
