A brave dog helped warn off some potential home invaders after an alleged attempted housebreaking in Tranent.

The alleged incident occurred at about 1.55am yesterday morning (January 8) at a home on Winton Court.

The home also serves as the base for dog daycare business Lazy Bones Dog Hotel and Daycare.

Lynne Robertson, 50, runs the business and was home with her two dogs Rocky, a two and a half year old Jug (a Pug and Jack Russell cross breed) and Willow, an eight-year-old Greyhound, when her dogs allegedly heard someone attempting to get in her front door.

Lynne said: “The dogs were alerted straight away to the noise and woke me up.

“I think Rocky must have scared whoever it was off with his bark. His bark is bigger than his bite and I can imagine whoever it was would have been quite scared of him.

“Willow is a lot more shy but she stood at the top of the stairs to keep me safe. I think if it wasn’t for Rocky then we may have been stolen from.”

When Lynne went downstairs to check what had happened she said she found her front door wide open but there was nobody there and no sign of forced entry.

She said: “It was quite scary but thankfully nothing was taken. The house serves as a business so I’m always very careful to lock the door every night so I’m sure I locked it.

“I fear the lock may have been picked but the police were unsure when they came out.”

Lynne said that had it not been for Rocky’s loud barking then the situation could have been worse.

She said: “Rocky is the real hero. He was very brave and stood up to protect his home.

“Police came out and advised that I should get a CCTV doorbell to keep the place safe in the future.

“I’ve now went and bought a camera for my door in case it happens again.

“I would just like to make people aware that these scallywags are out there and to be extra vigilant and make sure you lock your doors.

“Thankfully Rocky was there to protect the home but others may not have someone so brave to do so.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1.55 am on Sunday, 8 January 2023, police were called to a report of an attempted housebreaking.

"Following investigation, no criminality was established and advice and assistance was given."
