The Pennypit Community Development Trust has set up a festive fund to help families through the winter period in the face of the cost-of-living crisis.

The fund aims to provide essential items to families across the Preston Seton Gosford (PSG) and Fa’side areas who are being hit hardest by the crisis.

Items such as warm coats, new year bags and toiletries are being prioritised as the winter months provide the greatest risk to those living in poverty.

The fund will also help to provide free food and help the most in need in the community over the festive period.

A spokesperson said: “The cost-of-living crisis is currently affecting many families in our community, including stretching the household income, pushing many more families into poverty this winter.

“The winter months present the greatest health risks to many vulnerable families who are living in poverty needing assistance.

“Many children have to walk to and from school without a coat or food, which has an adverse affect on their concentration, attendance and performance.

“The average cost of a winter coat for a child is £20 – for some this is similar to their weekly income.

“Our mission is to provide free food and winter essentials to children and adults who are in need. The coats will be distributed across PSG and Fa’side areas.

“Any donation is greatly appreciated and will go towards this worthwhile cause.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by the trust to secure the £2,000 target to help families in the local area.
