The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of the UK, including for the east of the county, until 9pm today (November 2).

The warning is for strong winds of up to 65mph and the Met Office has advised road users to be careful when driving.

Most of East Lothian is not included in the warning however there is a yellow warning for high winds is in place for Dunbar and areas in the far east and south east of the county.

A statement on the Met Office website said: “A spell of very strong southerly or south-westerly winds will affect some western coastal areas during Wednesday, before spreading inland during the afternoon and affecting eastern Scotland later.

“Gusts of 55-65 mph are expected, especially in exposed coastal locations and over higher routes, with some sudden strong gusts of wind possible at times.

“A band of heavy rain will also accompany the very strong winds.”

It is advised that drivers stick to main roads whenever possible, to ensure that they grip their steering wheel tightly while driving, to keep enough room either side of the vehicle to allow room for the vehicle being blown sideways and to be aware of gaps between trees, buildings or bridges where winds may be stronger.
