GHOULISH garb will be donned at an assault course for a spooky fundraiser.

Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland is looking for volunteers to step forward ahead of Hallowe’en.

Twenty volunteers will support families and individuals daring enough to sign up to the Hallowe’en Blackout 5K assault course at Winton Castle, at Pencaitland.

Just after dark on Saturday (October 29), volunteers will support people around the course with spooky sound and light effects creating a scary atmosphere.

In exchange, there will be food and drink, and every volunteer will get a free ticket to return to the assault course at another time.

With a range of food and drink vendors, a DJ and disco, the event will have a frightfully festival atmosphere.

This year marks the first time the Halloween Blackout 5K has been held since 2019.

The 5k course includes more than 30 amazing obstacles, from the tyre wall to the barbed wire army crawl, and tunnels and trenches filled with water.

Proceeds from the event will support Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland provide services and support to about one million Scots who are living with the effects of chest, heart and stroke conditions.

Scott Smith, of Scottish Assault Courses Edinburgh, said: “Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland means a lot to both me and my business partner Gus, as we both lost our dads to conditions the charity works with.

“My dad had an aortic aneurysm and a series of strokes and spent a year in hospital before he died, and Gus’s dad had a heart attack.

“So, this is something we really care about.”

Volunteers will work from 5pm to 8pm and to find out more go to www.chss.org.uk/volunteer-opportunity/halloween-blackout-5k-run
