AN APPLICATION to continue to store hazardous substances at Torness Power Station has been approved.
East Lothian Council’s planning department gave the green light to EDF Energy, which manages the station, near Dunbar.
When the application was sent to the council, a spokesperson for EDF stressed that there would be no building or anything new brought onto the site.
She said: “Like most large industrial sites, Torness stores and uses a number of potentially hazardous substances, like ammonia, which is used on site for water purification.
“This application is an update to an existing consent to reflect current safe usage of these substances on site.”
No members of the public objected to the application, which was also considered by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA). They noted that no new substances were being introduced to the site and there was no change in the way they were being stored or the location.
