A COUPLE from Musselburgh marked their 65th wedding anniversary by celebrating with their family.

Jim, 88, and Jane Ross, 85, married at Prestongrange Parish Church, Prestonpans, in August 1957 and have been together ever since.

Looking back at when he first met his wife, Jim said: “At that time, everything was about dancing, dance has been with us all through our life.

“We met at the dancing in Musselburgh around May 1956, and we were engaged in September of the same year.

“Things just clicked: we were married within about a year and have never looked back.”

Jim is a retired British Airways assistant, while Jane has worked multiple jobs while bringing up their three children, Linda, Steven and Lesley. The couple now also have two grandchildren, Cheryl and Abby.

The pair live on Hercus Loan, Musselburgh, where they keep social and active with activities like bingo and bowling.

When asked what the secret was to such a long marriage, Jim said: “There’s no big secret really but the main thing is that we never argue. She will have her point of view and I’ll have mine but eventually one of us will give way, sometimes that works in my favour and sometimes in hers, but we never have long arguments and I think that’s important.

“We both keep busy too: I took up bowling and we like going on holiday to Blackpool; we were down in June and it was superb!”
