COMMUNITY projects are benefiting from thousands of pounds thanks to a wind farm in the Lammermuir Hills.

Fifty-four turbines have been built through the various phases of the Aikengall Wind Farm, which straddles the border of East Lothian and the Scottish Borders.

Each year, the wind farm array provides more than £900,000 in community benefit funds which are available to a range of charitable causes and regeneration projects.

Among those benefiting recently were Dunbar Sea Cadets, who received nearly £7,000. The funding allowed them to buy enough safety equipment for all of their new recruits.

Community Windpower also recently worked with Innerwick Primary School, West Barns Primary School, Stenton Primary School, East Linton Primary School and both campuses of Dunbar Primary School to install defibrillators to bolster the safety of those within the community.

Dunbar Grammar School was provided with a CPR pack, purchased by Community Windpower, which includes in-depth training and advice.

Meanwhile, Spott Community Association received £9,000 to restore and re-open the Core Footpath 40, a 3.3km circular path between Spott and Dunbar.
