THE Post Office on Musselburgh High Street will be temporarily closed from Monday, October 17, as the search begins for a new operator for the service.

Poundstretcher, where the current facility is located, has resigned from operating the franchise.

A Post Office spokesperson said that it was seeking a successful retailer to incorporate a Post Office Local into its existing or proposed business.

The Post Office spokesperson said: “The operator for Musselburgh Post Office has resigned and regrettably the branch will be temporarily closed from October 17 at 5.15pm.

“Post Office Ltd is looking for a successful retailer to incorporate a Post Office Local into their existing or proposed business.

“Any relocation would be subject to public consultation.

Alternative branches

“The vacancy is advertised on runapostoffice.co.uk and we would welcome interest from local retailers, as we know how important a Post Office is to a community.”

She said that the aim was to keep the Post Office in the same area but this would depend upon the interest from retailers.

“In the interim, alternative branches include Fisherrow and Levenhall, which offer the majority of Post Office services that are available,” said the spokesperson.

“Customers can check on postoffice.co.uk/branch-finder to find out about a specific service and the location of the closest branch and opening hours,” added the spokesperson.

The other branches are: Fisherrow Post Office, 119-121 North High Street, Musselburgh, EH21 6JE; and Levenhall Post Office, 55-57 Delta Drive, Musselburgh, EH21 8HL.
