AN APPLICATION to store hazardous substances at East Lothian’s nuclear power station is being considered.

EDF Energy, which manages Torness Power Station, has applied to East Lothian Council’s planning department.

A spokeswoman for EDF told the Courier there would be no building or bringing anything new onto the site.

Instead, it was an update of an existing consent. She said: “Like most large industrial sites, Torness stores and uses a number of potentially hazardous substances, like ammonia which is used on site for water purification.

This application is an update to an existing consent to reflect current safe usage of these substances on site.”
