ROWING clubs from across Scotland are getting ready to descend on North Berwick for the local club’s annual regatta this weekend.

North Berwick Rowing Club is hosting the event on Saturday, with crews competing in a variety of categories for different ages.

Races will take a course from the old pier around Craigleith Island and back to the start.

Crews from around the Firth of Forth will be in attendance, with Dunbar, Boatie Blest from Port Seton, and Musselburgh’s Eskmuthe Rowing Club representing the county alongside the hosts.

Crews from further afield will also be taking part, including Troon Coastal Rowing Club and RUW, from the Netherlands.

A total of 15 clubs will battle it out for victory, with Eastern Amateur Coastal Rowing Club, from Portobello, and St Ayles Rowing Club, in Anstruther, expected to provide stiff competition.

The first race will take place at 10am, with the men’s 45-plus years’ category opening proceedings.

The much-anticipated men’s and women’s open races will conclude the day at 4pm and 4.45pm respectively.

A total of 10 races will take place, and the club has encouraged all to come along and enjoy the racing. Home baking, tea, coffee and sandwiches will be available for visitors at the Hope Rooms, as well as a tombola and prizes to be won.

Millie Lowe, club captain, said: “We have always had very successful regattas here and with the number of entries this year we are looking forward to welcoming skiffies from near and far, and wish them and their clubs the best of luck.”
